Elizabethtown **

Release Date: October 14, 2005
Run Time: 2 hr. 18 min.
Rating: PG-13 - language and some sexual references
Cast: Kirsten Dunst, Orlando Bloom, Susan Sarandon
Director: Cameron Crowe
Genre: Drama
Stills: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 Pic 5 Pic 6 Pic 7 Pic 8 Pic 9 Pic 10
Synopsis: Drew Baylor returns to his small Kentucky hometown to bury his father after he is fired for a mistake that costs his firm $973,000,000. Drew has also lost his girlfriend and his trip home is not a welcome one. On his flight home, he meets flight attendant Claire Colburn, and their ensuing romance helps guide him through his rough transition with a fresh perspective.
Review: ** Nothing but a chick flick guys and not a good one at that. How unlikely is it for a company to invest a billion bucks on the new design for a sneaker anyway, and if you can buy that, how can you possibly care about Bloom's whimpy character that contemplates suicide after getting fired from the cushy job? Get another job man! Even girls will find Kirsten Dunst's character too cutesie. Only Susan Sarandon is provided with interesting material but even she can't overcome the thin characterizations and flimsy plot of this film that tries to be deep, but doesn't make it.

Everything Is Illuminated **

Rating: PG-13 - disturbing images/violence, sexual content and language
Cast: Elijah Wood, Eugene Hutz, Boris Leskin

Stills: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 Pic 5 Pic 6 Pic 7 Pic 8 Pic 9 Pic 10
Synopsis: Young Jewish man searches for a woman who saved his grandfather from the Nazis.
Review: ** Not a mainstream film, but offers some touches of offbeat humor.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose ***

Release Date: September 9, 2005
Run Time: 1 hr. 54 min.
Rating: PG-13 - thematic material, including intense/frightening sequences and disturbing images
Cast: Laura Linney, Campbell Scott, Tom Wilkinson, Jennifer Carpenter
Director: Scott Derrickson
Genre: Drama, Horror, Suspense/Thriller
Stills: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3
Synopsis: A 19-year-old girl is officially recognized by the Roman Catholic Church as possessed. A priest is put on trial after the girl dies. A bitter lawyer agrees to be his defense attorney and during the course of the trial, re-evaluates her life. The story is told in flashbacks that chronicle the girl's battle with what she believes to be possession juxtaposed with the court proceedings.
Review: *** The performances are outstanding. Most of the drama takes place in the courtroom, but the most memorable scenes are of the exorcism itself. Laura Linney and Campbell Scott play dueling lawyers in the trial of a Catholic priest (Tom Wilkinson) charged with negligence in the death of a teenage girl (Jennifer Carpenter). Also based on actual events, this film is better than the Exorcist.
